WHAT IS "HULLESS" POPCORN?
Hulless popcorn (hull-less) is any popcorn that has a very small and thin hull. The hull is the crunchy bit that gets stuck between your gums and teeth and can be a real pain in the but with most popcorns. Due to the small kernel size and thin hull, the remaining hull after being popped is almost negligible, which makes eating this style of popcorn a real treat, especially if you have braces or are susceptible to this ordeal!
THE STORY OF BINFORD AVENUE FARMS, LLC
Binford Avenue Farms, LLC is a small operation that began in 2021 due to the high demand for the locally produced popcorn that was being made at the farm. Due to the Derecho (inland Hurricane) that ripped through the midwest the previous year, supplies were very low and demand was very high!

Popcorn farming (though mostly not this type) has been in the family for 4 generations now, passed down from generation to generation, and hopefully, will go on to next generation!
Most commercially produced popcorn is just that - commercial. This does not lend itself well to this type of popcorn due to the lack of chemicals available to treat infestation and weeds/grass, as well as it's unique small size (commercial equipment isn't very effective). As such, we have a very small operation and rely on somewhat higher prices, for what we feel is a superior product due to the extra labor that is involved raising this breed. The whole process is either done on a very small scale with antique equipment or by hand, which we feel you will taste in the end product!
